North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Programme (NKUSIP)

Asian Development Bank assisted North Karnataka Urban Sector Investment Programme (NKUSIP) is third Urban Development Project being implemented in Karnataka. 25 towns are covered under this programme with overall project cost of Rs.1980 crores.  Out of this Rs.1188 crores will be in the form of loan from ADB and balance Rs.792 crores will be borne by Government of Karnataka. Water supply works are taken up in 15 towns (including 24x7 water supply projects in 13 towns) with an allocation of Rs.870 crores and UGD works are taken up in 17 towns with an allocation of Rs.770 crores. Sewage Treatment Plants are being constructed in 3 city corporations with latest technology viz, Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR). Apart from this storm water drain, road improvement, slum improvement, community development programs, fire & emergency services, tourism development and lake development works are being implemented.

During past three years following are the achievements under the Project:

§  State of the art 40 MLD Sequencing Batch Reactor type Sewage Treatment Plant at Hubballi has been constructed and commissioned.

§  Improvement to sewer network in Hubballi is completed.

§  Prestigious 24 X 7 water supply works in Ilkal has been fully operationalized.

§  The bulk water supply system and distribution network improvement works in Haveri, Raichur, Hospet, Gokak, Chamarajanagar, Shahabad and Yadgir are completed.

§  Bulk water supply system improvement works in Bidar, Basavakalyan, Ballari, Davangere

§  For providing 24 X 7 water supply under Performance Based Management Contract, civil works have been commenced in 12 ULBs (Gokak, Nippani, Bidar, Basavakalyan, Shahabad, Yadgir, Haveri, Gadag-Betageri, Ballari, Hospete, Raichur & Sindhanur)

§  Construction of Fire & Emergency service staff quarters in Dharwad, Ranebennur, Yadgir, Basavakalyan, Sindhanur & Gangavathi.

§  Construction of District Information Centres in Chamrajanagar and Bidar.

·         During past three years, about 1209 km of water supply lines and 524 km of sewer lines are laid, total financial achievement during the last three years is Rs.863.29 crores as against the target of Rs.930.00 crores.
