INSTRUCTIONS TO INCREASE REVENUE OF LOCAL BODIES
THERE IS NO RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SAKRAMA LAW AND VIDYANIDHI
TAX RECOVERY
MARCH DEADLINE FOR CEMENT QUARRY PROJECT
Bagalkot: Local bodies including municipalities should give
more priority to tax recovery. When all facilities are being given why tax is
not being collected? It is found that the Town commissioner has taken a strict
stand for recovery of self-assessed property tax at Vidyagiri in Bagalkot.
There is no relationship to the newly enacted Akrama-Sakrama law and the
collection of this cess. Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake told the
officers to continue tax recovery.
He spoke on the review of progress meeting of various
department under the jurisdiction of the City development, at the Deputy
Commissioner’s auditorium.
INCREASE TAX RECOVERY:
Tax recovery should be implemented effectively in local
bodies. Along with increasing the revenue, the grant received from the
Government should be utilized properly and development works should be undertaken.
He said that the local bodies like City corporations, town panchayats,
municipalities should strictly enforce tax collection and increase the revenue.
He told that more priority should be given to cleanliness in
the urban and rural areas and that the officers should stop the open space
toilets by creating awareness among public about toilets, and focus on
construction of public toilets. The Quarry water works is in a soon to be
completed stage for supplying water to Bagalkot town and that water will be
supplied by end of March. If the grant is not utilized it will go back to the
Finance department. He instructed that the officers should take care that it
does not happen and utilize the released grant for providing necessary facilities
to the public.
Already in the district, Jamakhandi and Hungund 24X7 project
has started and 2 numbers of water storage works have been implemented,
Further, the meeting was informed that the insertion work of MS elevated pipe
line of 273.1 mm diameter is completed. The water supply project under AUWSC
project has been initiated in March 2003 and it has been handed over to the
town panchayat. The barrage construction works are progressing and they need to
be completed.
He reviewed the progress of the local bodies in the district
and instructed that the construction works undertaken should be completed
within the scheduled time and achieve the specified goals. Before the meeting
the Minister reviewed the Underground drainage and Chalkwell project works undertaken
by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Board and visited the spot of the Quarry
water supply project and reviewed it.

bodies of the district participated.
Separate meeting for the development of Badami..
Badami is a tourist place. Tourism should also progress along with
the development of town. But some grants which are coming in, are not being
able to be utilized due to restrictions by the Archeological Survey of India.
Separate meeting will be held about development of meeting with the Tourism
Minister.
