Sorake moots single window clearance for industrial progress

THE HINDU - UDUPI, March 8, 2015

‘Big industries have failed to provide more local jobs’

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, said on Saturday that the government was planning to start single window clearance to solve the problems faced by industries in the district. He was speaking after inaugurating the one-day workshop on the New Textiles Policy 2013-18 and other programmes organised by the District Industries Centre at District Small Industries Association auditorium here.

Mr. Sorake said that the district had made progress in education, banking and hospitality sectors. There was lot of scope for industrial development in the district. The single window clearance would help in establishing and promoting industries and providing basic infrastructure facilities for them. He would hold a meeting with the industrialists of the district on this issue.

Though some big industries had been established in the district, the number of local people employed in them was less. “Hence, it is necessary to encourage small industries as they have lot of potential to generate local employment,” he said.

The unemployed youth should take advantage of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme and start small industries. He directed the officials to give information and training to the youth. It was essential that the government departments created confidence among the youth to succeed, Mr. Sorake said.
